These cottonwood trees stand next to an arroyo in the Galisteo basin. This site was inhabited by pre-Pueblo native people 1200 years ago. There are still stone irrigation structures. There was a spring near here and people from the Galisteo area Pueblos would stop here for water on the way to the Rio Grande Pueblos. Until recently, this land was a cattle ranch and the ranch house stood near this spot. When the wind blows the dry cottonwood leaves you can hear voices.
