Phé shúu ú is a place known to strangers and guests, more commonly called Abiquiú. When I arrived to Northern New Mexico in 2008, I discovered a sense of balance and clarity here. In the evenings, I would drive up to watch the sun set, waiting for nightfall. Lying beneath the sky, I would rest and reflect on the values my family had instilled in me—those quiet, grounding reminders of what matters fostered a resiliency in me.
This landscape reflects similarities to the place my family migrated from, south of the United States-Mexico border. Being here allowed me to reconnect with that part of me, bringing a sense of ease that may only come when place and memory align.
